A recent article published in Science Daily titled Modern office environment makes most people uncomfortable provides interesting findings about the impact of personality on the type of office environment people prefer to work in.
The study was originally carried out by the British Psychological Society (BPS). They found out that modern features such as hot-desking and open-plan offices mainly appeal to extroverts whereas others find them uncomfortable. The conclusion was that these results supported previous research into the unpopularity of open-plan offices and hot-desking and the positive effects of personalisation. However, some simple changes are recommended to address these issues such as creating storage areas for personal items, not over-doing clear-desk policy and creating quiet zones (please see the full article here).
